However, good genes may depend on the social environment, and female choice for good genes should be context dependent.

Barry Sinervo crosses the world every summer to go on a lizard quest. The herpetologist at the University of California, Santa Cruz, travels to the lowlands in countries such as Finland, France It is predicted that climate change will cause species extinctions and distributional shifts in coming decades, but data to validate these predictions are relatively scarce. Here, we compare recent and historical surveys for 48 Mexican lizard species at 200 sites. Since 1975, 12% of local population … Sinervo led an international team of biologists who conducted the study, published in the May 14 issue of Science. The researchers surveyed lizard populations, studied the effects of rising 2016-05-02 · Sinervo B, Méndez de la Cruz F, Miles DB, Heulin B, Bastiaans B, Villagrán-Santa Cruz M, et al. Orange males are aggressive and defend a territory, blue-males are aggressive, but are mate-guarder, and yellow males are not aggressive and behave like sneakers.

Experimental manipulations of side-blotched lizards indicate that pleiotropy is an important component of correlational selection on side-blotched lizard morphs (Sinervo, 2000; Sinervo et al

Mechanistic and experimental analysis of condition and reproduction in a polymorphic lizard. Erik Svensson, B Sinervo, T Comendant We are working on a project to understand the genetic basis of the mating strategy polymorphism found in the side-blotched lizard (Uta stansburiana). Male U. stansburiana exhibit three different mating strategies whose competitive dynamics are the first known example of a biological rock-paper-scissors game (Sinervo and Lively 1996).

Male U. stansburiana exhibit three different mating strategies whose competitive dynamics are the first known example of a biological rock-paper-scissors game (Sinervo and Lively 1996). Sinervo, a lizard ecologist by training, hadn’t thought much about extinctions until he spent a summer surveying European common lizards in the south of France in 2003. That August, a deadly heat wave swept Europe, killing more than 30,000 people. As temperatures climbed well past 100°F in Paris, Sinervo knew how to adapt. When selection acts on social or behavioral traits, the fitness of an individual depends on the phenotypes of its competitors.
